A subset of mutualists went to ESEB and heard about some great science while reconnecting with fiends and colleagues, both old and new. Aileen, Marleny, and Hassan all presented talks, while Ayas and Frances showcased two wonderful posters. Special congratulations to Frances, who earned a poster award for her outstanding work on beetle–fungal symbioses!
Lab retreat in Ringberg Castle
An amazing retreat spent with Ruth Ley, Thomas Boehm and their groups in Bavaria. Prost!
New adventures: Christine
After five years in the Mutualisms Lab, we bid farewell to Christine Henzler, who will join Ritter Sport as a technical specialist. Godspeed - you’ll be greatly missed, Christine!
Notice of award: European Research Council
Our group has been awarded a Consolidator Grant (2 Mio. €) by the European Research Council (ERC). The project, SYMBIVORE, will explore why beetles lose genes - only to rely on symbionts instead. SYMBIVORE will take flight in 2026 for a funding period of five years. There will be a number of opportunities to join the lab, so please watch this space for announcements!
